On June 30, 2006 the now classic film The Devil Wears Prada was released n theaters. In the film, editors pitch a shoot titled “Urban Jungle” featuring models in animal print frolicking in Central Park. After all, New York is often referred to as the “Concrete Jungle.” It’s only fiting that we dress appropriately.
18 years later, animal print and fur are experiencing a glorious resurgence. These eclectic and dramatic pieces are the epitome of freedom and self-expression when incorporated into everyday atire. They convey a sense of free-spiritedness and ofer a glimpse into the wearer’s “wild side.”
Thanks to the popular “mob wife aesthetic,” fur and animal print took center stage with many of the winter trends. It’s an aesthetic embodying confidence and female power. However, one does not have to wear a ful-length fur coat or leopard print scarf to partake in this trend. As we transition into spring and summer, styling these prints is easier than one would think. In the early 2000’s, with the release of the Cheetah Girls movie series, we saw fun pops of cheetah print on all o f the “it” girls. I t was casual and eccentric while stil being trendy for the era.
Many brands during this fashion season are showcasing ful outfits of lightweight leopard print. Alice and Olivia by Stacey Bendet showcases a leopard print dress and blouse perfect for the spring season. If a ful leopard look is what you are going for, look to Michael Kors, Reformation, Norma Kamali, and Zara for inspiration. They all utilize animal print in a variety of spring styles and fabrics for the season.
That being said, sometimes an al fur look can feel a bit heavy for a warmer season. If you are looking for a way to work animal print or fur into your spring wardrobe, shoes and bags are wonderful ways to start. Not only can bags and shoes be re-worn with diferent outfits, but they are transitional pieces that can work al year. Veronica Beard, Kate Spade, and Larroude all have wonderful animal inspired shoes fit for your spring and summer wardrobe.
Incorporating subtle pops of animal print into your summer outfit can transform basic looks to ones that capture the atention of al those who pass you by in the city.
